Ricardo Torres was born in Valdivia, Chile but grew up in Montreal, Canada
where he first encountered DJ turntables at his college radio station back
in 1986. A year later he gained a residency at a popular Montreal
alternative club called The Thunderdome.? It is at this club that Ricardo
had his first taste of ?House?. The track that was pumping out of the
speakers was "House Nation" from the House Master Boyz. When Ricardo heard
the first few bars of this classic track he was hooked and in no time
replaced his Smiths and Killing Joke vinyl to the names of artists like
Ralphie Rosarion and Marshall Jefferson. In 1989 he left DJing behind to
concentrate in his studies that led him into a career as a Visual Effects
Artist. It wasn't until 1995, when he moved to Los Angeles, that Ricardo
rediscovered the underground club scene and house music again. The soulful
West Coast vive gave him the itch to start spinning again and he acquired a
set of decks, a mixer, and his first vinyl in over 10 years. Today,
Ricardo's sound is very different than that of The Thunderdome years, like
him it has mature.? As he likes to say, "I now play dance music for
adults..." |
