The mind and concept behind Deep Down Productions is Kevin Cook (aka Kev ‘Deep Down’). The self-confessed house music junkie resides in the South West of the UK and looks set for big things in 2005!
At the young age of 22, Kev ‘Deep Down’ has been receiving a lot of positive feedback, both nationally and internationally, from people hearing his dynamic mixes of warm, deep and soulful drenched house music. Having grown up listening to artists such as Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder in the family home, the soul and funky side of music was installed at an early stage in life.
The progression into house music seemed like the inevitable.
“When I first started hearing house music, I was immediately drawn to it and found it a hugely inspiring, feel good sound”, Kev explains.
Through the late 90’s and early 2000, he could be seen playing across the South West. “With the hugely popular ‘South West free party scene’ at my door step, it was an ideal building block to start out.” He later progressed into the clubs, scoring gigs along side artists such as Deep Swing @ the hugely popular Rocket night. Promoted by former lazy house member Iain ‘Lazy’ Smith, it was a leading house night in the southwest of the UK.
In the summer of 2003 Deep Down made headway landing a bi-weekly two-hour slot on pulseradio.net, a current leader in the ever-growing world of Internet radio and voted best on the net 2001 & 2003 by about.com. Deep Down Sessions, hosted solo by Kev, still runs to date broadcasting his much loved blend of deep and soulful house grooves. This year the show has seen guests, DJ Will (automagic/buzzin’ fly), Martin Batacuda (batacuda), Ben Watt (ebtg/buzzin’ fly/lazy dog), Slammin Boys (galaxy radio/babushka), The Beard (inspirit music) and Andy Caldwell (Inspirit/Uno) as well as a host of other leading djs in the field.
With the ever-growing popularity of Deep Down, Kev hooked up with (brother) Matt Cook to launch there first club night in the capital, Deep Down @ Mango. “It’s a bi-weekly night specifically promoted to bring our passion for the music onto the floors for people to enjoy; playing the same quality music being listened to on the radio, but with that dance floor atmosphere.”
2004 saw Kev expanding to new heights by taking Deep Down international. He landed gigs in the Middle East, Ibiza, and recently Portugal. Closer to home gigs have also come @ Turnmills, London, a leading venue in the Capital.
Recent progression has seen Deep Down move into production. Currently working hard in the studio, he says, “There are plenty of things in the pipeline. I’m not content with just playing other people’s material so I hope to be able to get a label of our own off the ground in the near future.” I’m looking forward to what 2005 has to offer!” Watch this space! |
